Final Cover Letter 2

April 20, 2008

This research process isn’t anything I thought it would be like to write a University paper. For my paper I chose the psychology prompt because psychology is something I am very interested in. I find it easy for me to understand psychology because of my own personal experience. At first I wanted to have my paper be on Abusive Relationships but then after researching I found more articles on the psychological changes/affects that develop as we develop. It got difficult when it came time to finding 10 abstracts, I must have gone through over 500 just to find them, but while going through those 500 I payed attention to other information I could use in a future paper. I have never heard of an abstract before and probably would have just “googled” any information I needed to write a paper. Now that I know how to use the online library I have more options to use when writing a paper. Personally I probably wouldn’t use ten abstracts, maybe more like 5 for my paper. This is because when finding ten I felt like I had to use whatever I could find that slightly related to my project because I couldn’t find ten that were exactly what I needed. After writing my first abstract and got my comments back I realized I didn’t relate my abstract with my thesis properly. I had so many ideas being thrown into the abstract that I couldn’t explain it properly in my thesis. I had to go back and really rethink my process. The notes helped guide my idea and gave me inspiration for my revision. Now I have completed the abstract and thesis and feel they connect and relate which they should. All together I will use this process in the future as a guide to writing a paper. It was helpful in getting organized and set up and I feel like if I had to I could write a ten page paper on my topic easily with all the information I now have.

Final Cover Letter 1

While using the blog I found some aspects very helpful and some difficult. In a positive outlook I liked the fact that it was easy to organize my ideas and thoughts by just writing it and clicking publish. It kept things organized and when it came time to go back to my work I was able to find what I was looking for immediately. I am a messy person and lose things a lot or forget where I put things so having one specific spot I could always know to go to was easy and less time consuming. Something I didn’t enjoy about the blog was the difficulty of figuring out how to copy and paste certain items without losing it’s format. I still haven’t figured that out, and then at first I ended up setting up a link to my writings. When I went to do that again for my revised bibliography it seemed as though had changed the webs layout and I couldn’t find the function for setting up a link so I had to rearrange my entire bibliography and shrink it down in order for it to fit properly. Overall I enjoyed using the blog, it was quick and organized and made life a lot more simple. I have checked to make sure my blog is all together and has all of its posts which it does. It is very possible that I use my blog for future writings or research projects.

Revised Abstract

April 20, 2008

This paper examines the psychological disorders that occur in an adult. Some disorders that a person may have could include: depression, bi-polar disorder, oppositional defiance disorder, borderline personality disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, or alcoholism. The paper will examine actual examples of how these disorders can affect one’s life (i.e.:jobs, friends, relationships, self-happiness). It also includes examples of how someone’s environment can bring about these psychological disorders. Some disorders are not caused by surroundings but by genetics. These are unpreventable, and usually more serious.  There is scientific proof that the brain changes as the mind is aging, due to cultural differences. It is important to understand this in order to be aware of what psychological changes one’s own mind is going through and the ways to try and prevent possible disorders. Some disorders are unpreventable because some people are born with these disorders, or they are passed down by genetics, but the common disorders are usually brought about by environmental affects. This paper will show different ways and possible therapy a person can go through in order to prevent being affected by past experiences and psychological disorders.

Revised Thesis

April 20, 2008

A large amount of psychological disorders, seen in adults, are brought about due to environmental factors such as; trauma, abuse, neglect, injury, and other mind altering experiences. These disorders can seriously affect a person’s life and his or her relationships with other people. It is important to know and understand the different parts of the mind that are altered as one grows in order to fully understand the disorder and then possibly treat it. Also it is good to be aware of the different causes of these disorders in order to try and prevent them.

Revision Plan

April 11, 2008

1. There is a plus next to my initials and topic of psychology

2. My revision plan will start with reconstructing my thesis. Possibly rewriting it to make a more clear idea of what my paper is going to be about. I will then make my abstract more specific and will try to find more information on EXACTLY what I want to talk about. I will try to write more details and stick with a specific topic rather than floating around.  Then I will take my bibliography and add the dictionary encyclopedia and the 2 electronic books into it.

Essay 4 title and abstract

April 9, 2008

Education: Learning through distractions

The author describes how education is an important role to be played in many peoples lives. It is the key to success. However there are different ways to gaining an education. Focused on in this essay are ways of gaining education through texts and technology. Texts are very crucial to an educaiton because they can allow to learn more than you even think you are learning at the time. Technology, on the other hand, can be very distracting. Different tactics on how to surpass these distractions will be discussed through personal experiences. One will learn how the author started and progressed with education through different tactics and the strategies it is good to take while learning an education.

Draft introduction

April 9, 2008

“How are you doing in school?” This is one of the most commonly heard questions a college student is asked. Education, to most people, is an important part of growing up. It is important we learn about different aspects of life through education in order to “make it” on our own one day. This is something I have always been taught. Life doesn’t come handed on a silver platter. In order to get a decent job, make money to support my life and children I wish to have one day, I must first go through the steps of learning a decent education. Texts and technological devices have been used as a means of learning for years and years. With newer technological advances, like cell phones, and chat rooms, or even different imformation on television, I find technology to be a very distracting source to use for learning an education. On the other hand, while looking at texts there are many different ways I have tried going about it, and have learned strategies that can help strengthen my education.

(i am not sure exactly which author i will use along with restak for my essay. I am still thinking that over. Once i figure out who i want to use I will include restak and the other author into my introduction)

repost of abstract

April 9, 2008

Family Factors Predicting Social self-Esteem in Young Adults:  The relationship between social self-esteem and family functioning in college aged young adults was investigated. A stepwise multiple regression analysis was conducted to identify family variable predictive of social self-esteem. High levels of family cohesion and number of siblings significantly predicted strong social self-esteem. Family adaptability, amount of time left in the care of others during childhood, birth order and gender were nonsignificant predictors. As the sample was predominantly female, these findings are reviewed within the context of feminist family therapy, and indications for counseling young women are discussed.

Draft thesis for restak essay

April 7, 2008

I will be using Option One: Write an essay using the work of Richard Restak and at least one other author from our semester that analyzes the ongoing role of texts and technology as they relate to constructing a strategy to implement your own education.
